Woman attacked elderly roommate with 'Swiffer'

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Monday afternoon, officers arrested an East Texas woman who is accused of attacking her elderly roommate with a mop.

Around 3:30 Monday afternoon, Longview Police responded to an assault call at the Shady Lane Apartments in the 1500 block of Seventh Street in Longview.

Officers immediately detained Danielle Gilbert, 35, for aggressive behavior.

An elderly man told police that he presented Gilbert, his roommate, a letter from the property managers stating she had to move out.

The man continued in his statement that Gilbert started yelling, screaming and acting violent.

The victim says he turned from Gilbert momentarily and she grabbed a "Swiffer" mop and struck him from behind, causing the man to fall forward into a wall.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Gilbert then pushed the man into a wall, knocking a mounted wooden and metal cross, which fell and punctured the victim's wrist.

Gilbert told police the argument began because she had not been paid for work she'd done for the property, and that people were "lying about her and things she had said."

Police say when Gilbert was asked about the assault, she denied it claiming the victim just "bleeds all the time because of skin conditions."

Gilbert is charged with intentionally and knowingly causing bodily injury to a person 65 years of age or older.

Officials say Gilbert and the victim had been roommates for more than six months, meeting the elements required for a family violence charge.

Gilbert is held in the Gregg County Jail on a $10,000.
