BELLE GLADE, FL (WFLX) - Deputies continue to investigate a gunfight Monday night that left one man dead and three others injured.
It happened along the 500 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies.
Deputies remained on scene for about seven hours following the shooting at 9:30 p.m.
At 4 a.m. Tuesday, the body of the murdered victim was removed. Deputies did not immediately remove the body to preserve evidence.
Deputies said there appeared to be a battle between several factions.
Investigators could not immediately identify any of the victims by name or by age, saying it was too early in their investigation.
The three wounded males were expected to survive their injuries.
Deputies are asking the community to offer tips by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
Majd Afghani, a resident who works in a gas station in Belle Glade, says he is concerned about the violence. "I grew up in this town. It's really hard seeing people getting killed, getting shot. This is the second time this week someone's been killed," Afghani said. "It's not good at all."
Several shootings and deaths have been reported along the same stretch of road in Belle Glade in the last year. Others have occurred in nearby Pahokee.
"It's a constant; Belle Glade is known for it," Afghani said. "The crime rate is pretty bad here."
