Stomping case: Treacy cries in court Tuesday

POMPANO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The attempted first-degree murder trial of a Pompano Beach teen is back underway at this hour.

Wayne Treacy cried when the prosecution told jurors the teen repeatedly kicked Josie Lou Ratley in the head with steel-toed boots, leaving her with brain damage.

Defense attorneys say the 17-year-old boy suffered post traumatic stress disorder, and that text messages, received from Ratley about his dead brother, triggered an attack he didn't even know.

Russell Williams, Wayne Treacy's attorney, said, "The issue is why. Why did this happen? I'm hopeful, that after the evidence, you'll return a verdict of not guilty by reason on insanity."

Treacy, being tried as an adult, faces 50-years in prison if convicted.
