Manalapan preps for president's overnight stay

MANALAPAN, FL (WFLX) - Only a few hundred people reside in the community of Manalapan just south of Palm Beach.

On Thursday evening, though, the town, and possibly the Ritz-Carlton hotel, will be hosting President Barack Obama.

Wendy Yarbrough, owner of John G's restaurant was having some extra cleaning done on Wednesday, preparing for a possible presidential visit.

"Just knowing that he's maybe walking through the front door is a thrill," said Yarbrough. John G's moved from Lake Worth to Manalapan about 11 months ago. Good timing, Yarbrough said, as the small town prepares for the president to arrive.

The president will be on a campaign swing through south Florida on Thursday and Friday. After a campaign event at Century Village in West Palm Beach, he and his motorcade will make their way to Manalapan for the night. Staffers at the town's only hotel, the Ritz-Carlton, are not confirming or denying the president will be staying with them.

Many in Manalapan are preparing for the chance to come face to face with Mr. Obama.

If given the chance, Lantana Pizza & Restaurant owner Dino Ismaili would offer the president the house specialty. "Pizza is number one seller," said Ismaili. "I think this will be my first time I see him, if I get to see him."

Yarbrough is said she would offer up a John G's staple. "I would say the French Toast, by far, hands down one of our most popular items," she said.  "We're about to put Manalapan on the map with the help of President Obama."

After leaving Manalapan on Friday morning, the president is expected to travel to Fort Myers and Orlando before leaving the state.
