PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - The Port St. Lucie mayor voted to censure herself, after a city council member calls for a public censure of what many are calling the mayor's non-ethical behavior.
At Monday's city council meeting, the hottest topic was a new addendum on the agenda, the request of the city council to support a public censure of Mayor Joanna Faiella.
The meeting, which lasted almost three hours, had many residents turn out to speak their minds.
Some defended the mayor, while others called for her resignation.
Councilwoman Michelle Berger said, "It is our duty as city council to administer discipline for this particular exchange of emails."
She was referring to two controversial emails the mayor sent, one in which she asked a resident to "set up" the city attorney, and another that said she was "gathering ammo" against a police captain who was later laid off.
The mayor said she accepts full blame for what she wrote, so when the council took a vote on whether to censure Mayor Joann Faiella, she was one of several "yes" votes to reprimand herself.
"I'm not blaming anybody. No resident, no computers, no nothing. I'm taking full responsibility for what happened. Nobody put a gun to my head, nobody said anything, this was me," said Mayor Faiella.
