Homemade grenades, gallons of gas found inside Holmes' apartment

AURORA, CO (WFLX) - With less than a week to come up with formal charges for James Holmes, prosecutors continue to gather evidence from the suspected shooter's Colorado apartment.

The 24-year-old led authorities to his one bedroom apartment shortly after he was arrested for shooting and killing 12 people and injuring a dozen others.

Police discovered more than 30-homemade grenades and 10 gallons of gasoline inside. "This would be one of the first times, I think, we've ever seen what we can describe as a house bomb in the United States," said Ray Lopez, retired FBI agent. "Some of these things do exist overseas. We've seen them in places like Iraq and Afghanistan."

Investigators say Holmes was quite calculated in his attack after they discovered stockpiles of ammunition and weapons. The FBI is currently investigating the control box.

Holmes is being held without bond at this hour.
