Grocery bills on the rise

(WFLX) - The nation's drought problem could affect your grocery bill. This week the government said prices for groceries could go up due to dry conditions in the U.S.

The drought is affecting grain corn growing in the country. That drought will affect animal feed made from corn which in turn will affect the price for certain foods. This includes chicken, beef, pork, milk and corn sweetner.

"This year's crop is the highest acreage wide that has ever been planted in the United States, so that's another edition to that issue," said a representative for the local Office of Agricultural Economic Development. "It's going to continue, and you see the market. The price of corn went from $5 a bushel 37 days ago to $8.20 a bushel."

We could see an increase in prices by the end of this year beginning of next year.
