Gay couple denied wedding cake

LAKEWOOD, CO (WFLX) - The boycott of a Colorado bakery has its owner defending a decision to deny a gay couple a wedding cake.

Two men say they went into the Masterpiece Cake Shop and were denied a wedding cake after they told the owner they were getting married.

The couple posted their experience on Facebook and the response was overwhelming. Now, supporters are rallying at the store in protest of the couple's denial.

The owner, Jack Phillip, says he takes each one of his cakes seriously, and he wouldn't make one that goes against his beliefs. "If it came to that point, we would close down the bakery before we would compromise our beliefs so that may be what it comes to. We'll see," said Phillip.

While phillip says he won't make a gay wedding cake, he does not have an issue with serving gay clients or hiring gay staff members.
