Camp owner says family of child allegedly left in van is exaggerating incident

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - An investigation is now in the hands of the State Attorney's Office after a 4-year-old boy was left in a hot van at summer camp.

The State Attorney's Office is going to decide if criminal charges should be filed.

The boy's mother, Marie Granger, says when she showed up to Velocity Martial Arts School a few days ago, she was told her son was missing.

Counselors discovered he was locked inside a camp van -- exhausted from the heat.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says a counselor wrongly counted the child. The boy's teenage siblings were also at the camp, but, their mom says, that doesn't mean they were legally responsible for him.

Camp leaders say procedures are in place so this doesn't happen again, and it looks like the boy's family is: "Exaggerating this incident to manufacture a lawsuit".

PBSO has finished their investigation.

The parents of the boy say they will press charges. The state attorney's office will likely respond with their decision in the next 45 days.
