FORT PIERCE, FL (WFLX) - A Fort Pierce husband and wife are facing charges of child neglect after, officers say, they kept their two kids in a home covered with trash, rotting food and bugs.

After an investigation by the Department of Children and Families, police returned to the home in the 700-block of South 24th Street.

Officers say they found dirty mattresses, clothes and dishes throughout the home. They then arrested the couple.

The two children were taken into custody by DCF workers.

Both the husband and wife are each charged with two counts of child neglect without great harm.
