Migrants detained on Hutchinson Island

ST LUCIE COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies and Border Patrol officials have detained about half a dozen undocumented migrants who came ashore on South Hutchinson Island Friday morning.

One of the suspects still remains at large, St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara said.

Authorities have also seized a 17-foot boat they used, according to Mascara.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Mark Weinberg said the suspects came ashore sometime around sunrise in the 9500 block of South Ocean Drive, about two miles north of the Martin-St. Lucie County line.

U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are on scene along with sheriff's office deputies.

Deputies are using K-9 teams and a Sheriff's helicopter to look for the illegal who is still at large, Weinberg said.
