FORT PIERCE, FL (WFLX) - A routine traffic stop turns into anything but, and police were shocked at what they found once catching up to the car in pursuit.
In Fort Pierce, Kent Canty drove 43 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour zone. When police tried to pull him over, dash cam reveals him running a red light.
Next, officials say, Canty rammed into another vehicle and then gets out of his car and flees.
Officer's were surprised when they found an infant in his backseat. "To be running from the police with the child in the car is unconscionable. But then to leave that child in the car, not in a car seat, not restrained, and abandon a 6-month-old baby, that's just unacceptable."
Officers say they also found 40 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.
Canty is currently at the St. Lucie County Jail. One of Canty's relatives is now caring for the baby.
