PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Major construction began on a Palm Beach bridge which could change your daily commute for years to come!
You can expect periodic lane closures along the Flagler Memorial Bridge. As construction begins, the ramp from northbound Flagler Drive to eastbound A1A will be closed permanently.
The ramp from westbound Flagler Bridge to northbound Flagler will be closed temporarily. The northern bridge is 75 years old. It was found to be structurally deficient -- not meeting current standards.
After months of delays and disagreement, the new bridge will be built just south of the current bridge location. The new bridge will feature wider travel lanes, shoulders and sidewalks as well as a new median.
This project will cost more than $94 million. This project is expected to take almost three years to complete.
