Chick-fil-a opens new restaurant in Royal Palm Beach

ROYAL PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)  Dozens of people camped out for free chicken on Wednesday night in Royal Palm Beach.

A new Chick- Fil-A will open up at 6 a.m. Thursday, and the first 100 customers will get free chicken for a year. The restaurant is located on the corner of State Road 7 and Southern Boulevard.

The parking lot was filled with tents, couches, TV's, and even a ping pong table.

Kelli Meeks, from Palm Beach Gardens,  said the free food is not the only reason she comes out to the event.

"It's fun to be here all day, they have a lot of activities and I like playing hanging out with my friends playing games, it a good time," she said.

Customers came from all across the country, just to take part in the celebration. Richard Coley from St. Petersburg, said this is his 81st Chick-Fil-A opening.

"This isn't about me, I'm just a normal average guy, who's in love with a fabulous product, produced by fabulous people, and it's really all about Chick -Fil-A," he says.

Customers who have been in line since yesterday have been treated to breakfast, lunch, and dinner by management. Activities throughout the day include a dance contest and a four square game for the kids.

Rob Rabenecker, owner and operator of the new store, said he's ready for the doors to open bright and early Thursday morning.

"We're excited, we're excited for the community, we're excited for the 90 new team members we brought on board, so this is just a great time for us," Rabenecker said.

Earlier Wednesday, Chick-Fil-A announced that they will stop donations to anti-gay groups. But to customer Don Towles from Tavari, Florida, the news didn't phase him.

"Everybody knows Chick-Fil-A and what they stand for, they're closed on Sunday, they are a family oriented business and that's just everyone's opinion and everybody's entitled to it and that's fine and we don't get involved with it, one way or the other," Towles said.
