Seven women and a man were arrested over the weekend in connection with running escort services out of Savannah motels.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police made the arrests on Friday and Saturday night.

JoAnn May, 33 and Okemi Brown, 24, were arrested at the Guest House Inn on Abercorn Street. Sylvana Somoano, 21; Sharise Harris, 21, were arrested at the Red Roof Inn.

Police said Marquita Mobly, 28, was arrested while working out of the Savannah Suites on Abercorn Street.

Amanda Ormond, 29; Angel Goodrich, 30; Ivy Blankenship, 27, were arrested at the Days Inn at Abercorn Street and Mercy Boulevard.

The women were charged with escorting without a license, which is violation of a city ordinance. Police said the man had an active warrant out on him.

According to the city ordinance, women can get an escort permit to go to social events and be paid. But the ordinance says nothing about sexual relations.

Managers at some of the hotels who did not want to be identified said they recognized some of the women and noticed a lot of activity in their rooms.

The managers say they have a hard time turning away the escorts because they aren't sure who they are and they don't want to discriminate based on people's looks.

Police said they all had advertised escort services online.

Police seized cash, property and drugs during the arrests. City Ordinance violations can carry a maximum fine of up to $500 and 30 days in jail or three months probation.
