(WFLX) - A woman's battle against breast cancer ends up saving her husband's life.
Dolly Stringer was diagnosed with breast cancer back in April. When she shaved her head to get ready for chemotherapy, her husband shaved his in support.
That's when they found stage three melanoma. "I jumped in the room, and said, 'Hey guys, what do you think?!' They said, 'Wow, that's a big ugly black mark on the top of your head.' And I said, 'What are you talking about?'" said Bud Stringer.
"If it wasn't for his wife, and his shaving his head, he would have gone on for many months -- completely unaware of this," said Vernon Sondak, M.D. with the Moffit Cancer Center.
"By the time he would have had symptoms, it would have been too late," said Bud's wife, Dolly.
The hidden cancer on Dolly's husbands head had grown to the size of a half dollar. Now, their Georgia community has come to help them holding a fundraiser to help the family deal with medical costs.
