Multi-city chase with known felon ends in Delray

DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Residents living off of Whatley Road in Delray Beach woke up to find their streets filled with police cruisers Monday morning.

Several agencies responded to a police chase that began in Boca Raton.

Sandra Boonenberg, the public information officer for Boca Raton, said several officers were conducting "surveillance" on a known felon. The officers say the suspect had a handgun in his possession, which is illegal for a felon.

Police tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect did not stop. Instead, he headed north in a truck through Delray Beach, into Boynton Beach then back to Delray Beach.

Police from several agencies and deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office were all called in to help with the pursuit. They set up a perimeter and used the assistance of the PBSO helicopter.

The suspect, and three others inside the truck, ended up in a Delray Beach neighborhood. Witnesses say the streets were filled with cop cars. Police said two people tried to flee, but were caught.

Investigators have not yet identified the suspects or sorted out what charges they will face.
