S. FL disaster relief teams leave for NY

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Seven members of the FL5 Disaster Medical Relief Team flew out of Palm Beach International Airport Monday morning and headed to New York to help Hurricane Sandy victims.

The team consists of 39 people who have experience in the medical field including doctors, practitioners, mental health specialists, logistics etc.

They're coming from all over South Florida far south as the Keys. They plan to work in shelters over the next two weeks, helping those who haven't received treatment because hospitals and medical facilities are still shut down.

DMAT members said they know the temperatures will be frigid, but they train year round for events like this and are prepared to work in the cold to help who still need assistance.

It's unclear where they will be stationed. Members will get their assignments once they land.
