TAMPA, FL (WFLX) - A wounded soldier from the Tampa area is running a half-marathon to give back to a group, she says, changed her life.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Champion lost her eye sight from a virus she contracted while serving in Iraq.
To help her live a more independent life, Southeastern Guide Dogs gave her a guide dog named "Angel".
Now, she's trying to raise $2 million the organization half-marathon. This Sunday in St. Petersburg. "It's like getting back to normalcy as best as i can see it for myself today.
During the race, champion will be tethered to someone to help her through the course. She says, she plans to give every single donation they earn to the guide dog organization.
