RIVIERA BEACH, FL (WFLX) - It's a piece of Palm Beach County history, but right now, it's floating on the water with no place to call home.
An empty house sits on a barge floating in the Riviera Beach Marina.
Anthony Miller of the Palm Beach Maritime Museum says the two story homestead was built on Palm Beach Island in 1903. It was home to the engineer behind Henry Flagler's plans to dredge the Lake Worth Inlet, and, in turn, created Peanut Island. "It's a bit of a shame because, I feel like, there is very little history left in Florida," Miller explained.
The family who owns the home handed the keys over to a local contractor. He is looking into potential places for the home, but says it could take months.
So expect to see this house on the water through the New Year.
