WPB hosts global stem cell research conference

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Scientists from all over the globe are together right now in Palm Beach County to discuss medical research breakthroughs.

The World Stem Cell Summit is now underway at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. At least 1,000 scientists from 40 countries are attending to discuss results of recent trials and meet with other scientists. This is the first time the event has been held in Florida.

"Palm Beach and Florida, in general, is a hot bed for biotechnology. We have Scripps and the Max Plank Institute, and the state investment in the field," said Bernard Siegel, Genetics Policy Institute. "So for that reason, the goals of Palm Beach County and Florida are to grow this biotechnology and life sciences."

The World Stem Cell Summit wraps up on Wednesday.
