Pedestrian killed by St. Lucie County Sheriff's Deputy

SUBURBAN PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - A St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office deputy struck and killed a woman in a Port St. Lucie crash Tuesday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Deputy Matthew Brewster was driving a marked patrol vehicle eastbound on Prima Vista Boulevard just east of Lima Court when the woman walked into the path of his vehicle.

The woman was crossing Prima Vista just before 10 p.m. when the left side of Deputy Brewster's vehicle struck her, according to FHP.

Brewster's vehicle veered to the right traveling into the outside lane where it came to a final rest, FHP reports.

The woman landed face-down in the center turn lane. She has not been identified.

Brewster was not injured. The crash is still under investigation.
