OCOEE, FL (WFLX) - A Central Florida mother has been reunited with her baby after, police say, a thief stole her car with a five-month-old girl inside.
Sara Bayes says she walked into a convenience store for a pack of cigarettes and returned to find her car and child gone.
Police say the car was an easy target because it was left running and unlocked -- an act that could lead to charges against the 21-year-old mother. "She was sleeping and stuff like that, so I didn't want to disturb her," said the child's mother. "And it's cold out and everything, and she's sick, so, you know, I honestly didn't think I was in there that long. But it goes to show how quick things can happen."
Police were able to find the vehicle nearby with the baby inside unharmed.
