PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - It's estimated to cost $200,000 to repair a water tower; it comes after a Pinellas County man shot at it with a high powered rifle.
Deputies say Mark Fitzgerald went on a shooting spree early Wednesday while looking for his dog in a golf club. Fitzgerald told deputies he brought his guns in case he encountered a coyote.
Investigators say he was under the influence at the time. "All I know is he was a paratrooper, at one time, when he was released from active duty," said neighbor and club member Ed Hawkes. "I believe he's under care at the VA."
Authorities say one of the multiple bullets Fitzgerald fired hit the nearby water tower. Fitzgerald now faces several charges.
