STUART, FL (WFLX) - Doctors continue to treat a Martin County firefighter who was burned while battling a house fire Thursday morning.
According to Martin County firefighters' Facebook page, 22-year-old Jahwann McIntyre remains in critical but stable condition.
Fire investigators say McIntyre and two other firefighters were injured after getting trapped in the blaze at this house on Blue Water Way.
McIntyre was flown to Miami's burn unit at Jackson Memorial with 25 percent of burns on his body.
The fire, which is still under investigation, broke out around 2:30 Thursday morning. When units showed up, the fire was still rolling and the smoke was heavy and thick. Firefighters believed someone may have been trapped inside, so they immediately went into search and rescue mode.
But during the search, firefighters were overwhelmed by the heat and had to make a mayday call. Calling on help from fellow firefighters.
We spoke with one man Thursday who used to live at the house, but, he told us, he hadn't been here for several weeks.
As for the other two injured firefighters, they were treated, but their names have not been released.
We'll continue to check on McIntyre's condition, and if anything changes, we'll pass it along on air and online.
