Wildfire forces 2,500 people to evacuate

FORT PIERCE, FL (WFLX) - Residents in Fort Pierce are being advised to beware of downed power lines due to a wildfire.

A total of about 2,500 people were forced from their homes -- 200 of whom are from the Indian Pines Golf Club alone. Many sought shelter from the Red Cross at the St. Lucie County Sheriff's office substation.

FPL crews are now working to make the necessary repairs and get power back online to the affected areas.
