Stranger Danger Tips

(WFLX) - Police continue to search for a man accused of luring a young girl into the woods and sexually assaulting her in Stuart Sunday afternoon.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid-20s, with short, dirty blonde hair. He is approximately 5'9" with a slim build. He was wearing a blue-and-white striped shirt and had some type of a cast or brace on one of his hands said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

Nancy McBride with the National Safety Director for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released a few reminders for parents.

McBride says the "Stranger Danger" message parents were brought up with is not as effective in today's age -- meaning that children often describe a stranger as someone who is "ugly" or "mean".

She added children will want to be helpful; therefore, there is a good chance a child may be tricked into going with a stranger.

McBride said the safety messages need to be tailored to specific circumstances.
