JUPITER FARMS, FL (WFLX)-- A rabies warning is being issued to Palm Beach County Residents.
The Florida Health Department of Health State Laboratory confirms A raccoon discovered by a Chocolate Labrador Retriever Saturday tested positive for rabies.
According to Animal Care and Control reports, the Labrador, named Taylor, found the raccoon in some yard bushes.
When the raccoon was picked up by Animal Care there were no apparent injuries but saliva surrounded its mouth.
The dog was not hurt and is up to date on its rabies vaccine and will be under home observation for a minimum 45 days.
The public is asked to maintain a heightened awareness that rabies is active in this area. Animal Care and Control has placed informational flyers in the neighborhoods where the bite took place.
The Health Department is asking anyone who may have had contact with this animal to contact them at 561-840-4500.
