EOC officials give hurricane preparedness presentation By Rachel Leigh | June 3, 2013 at 4:01 PM EST - Updated July 11 at 5:45 AM PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Lawmakers gathered at the Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center Monday morning for a hurricane preparedness presentation.EOC officials gave an hour-long presentation about what they're doing to be hurricane ready now that the season has started. They also asked representatives to fight for more funding in Washington should a hurricane strike South Florida. Director Bill Johnson informed lawmakers about the role of the different stations for all 38 municipalities when the center is activated. He said because of the predictions of an active storm season, families should make a plan, build a kit, be informed and get involved. The main topics were the budget and FEMA. US Representative Ted Deutch said he was concerned about hurricane funding because it has shrunk over the last five years and more cuts could be on the way. The EOC is on Twitter and Facebook if residents need updates, and they have a new app out for iPhones and Android smartphones called PBC Dart. That stands for disaster assessment and resource tool. On it you can find evacuation and shelter info, as well as updates if there's an emergency. Copyright 2013 WFLX. All Rights Reserved.
