Habitat for Humanity blitz

BOYNTON BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Despite the weather, it was a day to literally "raise the roof" in Boynton Beach.

Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County is taking part in a national blitz to build affordable homes for deserving families. Saturday morning, crews began to build two homes that will be completed in just one week.

"We've taken this project on to help the community and residents of the community grow and provide safe affordable housing," said Mike Campbell, Executive Director of Habitat for South Palm Beach County.

"The ability for us to do it is an indication the economy is getting stronger.  Nearly everybody out here today is donating their time and resources," said Aaron Buttress with Current Builders.

Over the next year, 21 homes will be built in the neighborhood of Ocean Breeze West.  The community was devastated by Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and had sat vacant ever since.
