WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)-- Several hours after a fire started at Sunniland Patio Furniture in West Palm Beach, the blaze continues to smolder.
The fire started around 9:30 Wednesday night in the 4100 block of Okeechobee Boulevard. The roof of the building collapsed just before 5 a.m. Flames finally died down about a half hour later.
Authorities initially shut down several blocks of Okeechobee Boulevard so Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews could bring their hoses across the busy roadway.
When firefighters received the initial call, they were told there was thick smoke and large flames coming from the building. Dispatchers were told there were people inside, but firefighters say they made it out safely.
Flammable material inside the building made it difficult to put the fire out.
An investigator is expected to come to the scene of the fire Thursday morning and try to determine what started it.
As of 4:30 a.m. Thursday the section of Okeechobee Boulevard that was shut down was open again. Drivers traveling through the area should be cautious because firefighters are working close to the road and construction crews are working on the roadway as well.
