MIAMI, FL (WFLX)-- It was once listed at $125 million, and now it is up for public auction in September.
Countless tourists hope for a glimpse of the former Versace mansion on South Beach from the infamous steps where the designer was killed.
"We call it the auction of the century because no one has been able to purchase a property like this through the auction method," said Lamar Fisher, of Fisher Auction Company.
Walking through the lavish home is breath-taking. Ornate floors, ceilings and painted frescoes adorn the 10 custom suites inside the mansion. Even the 11 toilets are opulent.
"Who ever buys the mansion, the furnishing and the art go with it, what you see is what you get," said Fisher.
Gianni Versace invested $33 million in the home when he renovated it. Already potential buyers want a piece of the history and Italian decor than makes the South Beach property unique.
"We've received half a dozen interested parties, some high profile celebrities, others on the international market from South American to as far away as Russia," said Fisher.
Not just anyone can bid on the home, you need to put down a $3 million deposit and prove you have more than $40 million dollars in funds to participate in the September 17th auction. The bidding starts at $25 million.
