A school grades drop, F grades increase

WFLX--The Florida Department of Education released the 2013 school letter grades for elementary, middle and some combination schools Friday morning.

Martin County schools finished with six A's, eight B's and three C's. Indian River County schools received three A's, nine B's, seven C's and one D. St. Lucie County schools had three A's, six B's, 14 C's, seven D's and two F's.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Palm Beach County went from having no F-rated schools last year to having two elementary schools, two charter schools and one alternative school getting that dreaded scarlet letter.

Based on preliminary grades, statewide, the number of "A" schools dropped from 48 percent to 29 percent while the number of "F" schools increased from 2 percent to 4 percent, according to the Florida Department of Education.
