CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Two dogs rescued from a parked car in the 19 Action News parking lot in Reserve Square at East 12th and Chester have been reunited with their owners.

19 Action News worker first spotted the dogs around noon on Wednesday and told security. Around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, an animal control officer took away both dogs - a German Shepherd and one large mix.

A bag of dog food and some bottles of water were spotted outside the car.

The animals were taken to the Cleveland Kennel.

John Baird, Chief Animal Control Officer, tells 19 Action News that custody was transferred back to the respective owners as of early Thursday afternoon.

The owners claimed that they were traveling back to California and arrived in the parking garage Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. They further claim that the dogs were checked on and walked periodically throughout the day and that they had given notice to parking lot security on staff.

Upon the owners arrival at the kennel, Chief Baird obtained personal identification and advised them on the dangers of leaving dogs in a motor vehicle and stated that next time the City would not be so accommodating.
