Suspect at large: Gun pointed at PBC deputy during traffic stop

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says a person pointed a gun at a deputy after a traffic stop Thursday morning.

It happened north of 45th Street at Caribbean Boulevard and Haverhill Road.

Authorities say deputies pulled over a man in a silver Hyundai. That's when and a passenger in the vehicle got out and pointed the weapon at a deputy.

A deputy fired at least once and the passenger ran. Investigators don't think the passenger was hit.

They say the weapon was recovered; however, there's an active search for the suspect.

Some residents were not surprised. "This is the norm. This is the norm. All of this, this is truly the norm. So, you know, like I said, I'm in the process of trying to relocate and I can't wait to get out from over here, Samuel Smith said.

The driver is in custody and being questioned.
