A Valley couple was planning one of the most special days of their lives but a speeding motorist nearly ripped them apart forever.
They were badly injured but their co-workers are making sure the crash doesn't keep them from walking down the aisle.
"All I remember is Rob saying, 'Oh, crap, he's too close' and then we both blacked out," Holly Quaife said.
Quaife and her fiance, Rob Hassenstab, were driving home from the store last February when their plans of a new life together nearly ended.
Their vehicle was T-boned by a speeding driver, throwing their car more than 50 yards before it ended up crumpled on its side.
"His face was covered in blood. They were screaming that they smelled gas," Quaife said.
Good Samaritans quickly pulled both of them out through the back window but the force of the crash broke three of Quaife's vertebrae. Hassenstab fractured his right arm, his collarbone and his femur in 22 places.
Hassenstab can't walk, much less work and he has no insurance, so when she's not taking care of him, she at the office, trying to come up with the funds for a fast approaching October wedding.
"A lot of money for their wedding has been used for living expenses, and their medical bills and things," Quaife's co-worker, Megan Taylor said.
Quaife's co-workers didn't want what is supposed to be a joyous time lost in the worry and stress of struggling to pay the bills, so they asked CBS 5 News to help them pay it forward.
"We wanted you to know how highly we think of you and that we wanted to do this for you and that you deserve it, so we got to pay it forward," Taylor said to Quaife and presented her with a check for $500.
"I can get groceries again. We don't have to stress so much. I don't have to wonder, 'who am I going to borrow money from this time to pay the bills,'" Quaife said.
Hassenstab still has probably another year before he's fully recovered, but Quaife said by October he is determined to be healthy enough to hobble down the aisle.
She said the crash has only brought the two of them closer together.
