Parishioners of Ebenezer Baptist Church boarded buses Friday morning to head to the nation's capital to commemorate 50 years since their pastor led the famous March on Washington during the Civil Rights Movement.

The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28, 1963, proclaiming the famous phrase, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty, we are free at last."

Gail Brown Hollin remembers that speech well. She was ten years old when she attended the march 50 years ago.

"We had to dress up," she said. "Mama dressed us up in dresses. It was just awesome standing there watching him speak. He was so energized, so spirit-filled. And the wave of energy that went through the crowd was just enormous. You had black and white people who didn't know each other hugging and holding hands and clapping and saying 'Amen' to everything he said. It was just amazing."

Hollin and her family would later join Ebenezer Baptist Church and got to know King and his family well. She's among the group headed to Washington D.C. for the 50th anniversary events.

"There's a lot of work to be done, and that's why I'm going, to recommit myself and to be there to help get the message across," Hollin said.

Ebenezer's current pastor, the Rev. Rafael Warnock, plans to attend several events during the weekend and the following week.

"Even those who can't  make it to the march are organizing themselves in cyberspace," said Warnock. "In the age of Facebook and Twitter, there are so many ways that people are making their voices heard."
