PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Several law enforcement agencies, along with the Palm Beach County school district, will meet Friday morning to talk about a new school bus safety initiative.
This discussion comes after several incidents surrounding school buses happened during the first week of school.
On Wednesday, a bus driver lost control of her bus after leaving Spanish River High school.
The driver initially reported that her wheel and brakes locked up, but it was later determined that the brakes were not to blame. School officials are still looking into what caused the malfunction.
She was able to stop the bus, with no injuries, in oncoming traffic on Glades Road.
But the same can not be said for an 8-year-old girl, who was hit by a car while getting off a school bus Tuesday in Port St. Lucie.
She was hit while trying to cross the street on Bayshore Boulevard and Airview Avenue. The girl was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The press conference starts at 10 a.m. at Don Estridge High Tech Middle in Boca Raton.
Members of the Palm Beach County Association of Police Chiefs, the Palm Beach County School District and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office will be in attendance.
