Wine trail planned for Southeast Michigan

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) - A wine trail bringing together 16 wineries in Southeast Michigan is being planned.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports ( http://bit.ly/1dZETY3 ) that the effort is being pushed by local businessman and community booster Tom Gray. He says the most populous area of the state could use a trail, given Michigan's ranking as eighth in the country in wine production.

A wine trail is a group of wineries in the same vicinity that pool resources to attract tourists to their samplings and services, and other destinations nearby. In this case, the wineries are in Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, Huron, Saginaw St. Clair and Lapeer counties.

Gray has been meeting weekly with the winery owners, who still must come up with a name for the trail.
