DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Some Delray Beach residents want to overturn a city rule banning dogs from the beach.

Pet owners say they're tired of having to drive all the way to Lake Worth or Jupiter to bring their dogs to the water.

Their plan is to write up a petition to drum up support. They say even if the dogs are allowed a few hours, that would be better than nothing. "It's too hot for the animals anyway when people are there, so maybe the early morning hours or late evening would be a wonderful compromise," said Delray Beach resident Mary Yuhas.

Yuhas says she was once fined $54 for bringing her dog to the beach.
