WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)--  An arrest has been made in connection with the hit-and-run death last June that claimed the life of a restaurant employee.

The victim, David Larsen, had worked at Island Jack's Patio and Grill, according to the West Palm Beach Police.

Police said that Larsen was riding his bike westbound on Okeechobee Boulevard east of Baywinds Dr. around 12:30 a.m. on June 25 when he was struck and killed by a Dodge Magnum, which was also heading west.

West Palm Beach Police said that Timothy Owens is the registered owner of the car.

Witnesses at the time of the fatal accident told police that the driver of the Dodge pulled over to see what he struck and then drove west until he stopped at the McDonald's parking lot on Okeechobee Boulevard because he heard a scraping sound.

Investigators said that Owens located a mangled bicycle in the front of his car and threw it into the bushes.

Police said that Owens did not attempt to call police about the crash.

DNA tests on the car and on Owens linked Owens to Larsen, according to police.

A check of court records shows that Owens was arrested on April 2 by the Palm Beach Gardens Police on charges that he obtained prescription drugs by fraud.

Owens was released from jail on bond on April 3 and has a scheduled court date on the drug charges in November.

The West Palm Beach Police have arrested Owens and charged him with the hit-and-run death of Larsen.
