Statewide BOLO issued after two killed on Turnpike

FORT PIERCE, FL (WFLX) - A statewide BOLO (be on the lookout) alert has been issued by Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers are trying to track down the driver of a tractor trailer who, they say, hit and killed two people on the side of the Florida Turnpike Monday night.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near mile marker 166 in Fort Pierce.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two people were on the east shoulder changing a flat tire, when the tractor trailer hit the two people and the car they were in.

The two people died at the scene. They were identified as 24-year-old Vincent T. Mathews from Lakeland,  and 19-year-old Mariah A. King of Davenport, Florida.

FHP troopers say the driver of the tractor trailer kept traveling north.

As of early Tuesday morning, FHP says the truck was last spotted in Central Florida, near St. Cloud.

According to FHP, both the tractor and trailer have Illinois tags.

The tractor tag reads P769293.

The trailer reads T495080.

Authorities say the tractor is dark colored, but can't tell exactly what color it is. It should have damage to the passenger side headlight, bumper and fender on the front side of the truck.
