BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - For the first time, law enforcement has linked the death of a 15-year-old Boca Raton boy to a dangerous new drug.

Federal agents and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office have been investigating the death of Zachary Taylor Denaro since June.

He was found along South Ocean Boulevard unconscious on June 13.

Authorities say the investigation has produced results.

Documents say Denaro overdosed on a drug called 25i-nBOME, a synthetic drug that often mirrors LSD.

The DEA and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Drug Task Force says they uncovered a ring, led by Lisa Russo, 56, of Lake Worth.

She allegedly bought the drugs online and was a "main source" for Palm Beach County suppliers who sold it to Denaro.

"It is a really low cost drug," said Dr. Carlos Satueosky of the Village Harbor Detox Center in North Miami. "It is a really hard to detect molecule, so people replace other drugs like marijuana, which we can test for."

George Kimbrow, who is a patient at the detox center, says he has used the drug before. "You kind of feel like you're floating," Kimbrow said. "I started throwing up and foaming from the mouth. I had probably a slight seizure."

Kimbrow says the drug used to be easy to find in Palm Beach County, but many dealers have sensed the police closing in and have stopped selling it to new customers.

Authorities called Russo a main supplier of the drug in Palm Beach County, but do not specify in court documents how many other main suppliers there might be.

The documents say Denaro overdosed, but no official cause of death has been released.
