BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - An investigation is ongoing after a Boca Raton police officer shot and killed a man Sunday night.  After the shooting, officers then found a woman's body a few blocks away. 

Update, MON 4 PM: The incident happened around 6 p.m. in the 500 block of South Ocean Blvd.

When officers arrived, police said they encountered an armed suspect, Ian Burlakoff, in the northbound shoulder of South Ocean Boulevard.

Police said Burlakoff failed to follow officers' commands and then reached for a handgun. 

An officer, whose name has not been released, fired a shot, killing Burlakoff. 

Following the shooting, witnesses told officers that Burlakoff had shot and killed a woman a short distance away. 

Officers found the body of a woman, identified as Germana Burlakoff, 37, of Boca Raton in an empty lot across the street. 

Previously: An investigation is ongoing Monday morning after Boca Raton assistant police chief says one of the department's officers shot and killed a man Sunday night. 

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the 500 block of S. Ocean Boulevard. 

After the shooting, officers found a woman's body a few blocks away.

The assistant police chief said it appears to be a domestic situation.

The father of the man killed told Fox 29's Meghan McRoberts his son called him saying he was having trouble with his wife and asked his dad to pick him up.

The father says he heard the shots that killed his son.

The father said the couple had been married 8 years and have 4 kids.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is helping in the investigation.
