PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police are looking for a man they said mutilated the ears of another man's pit bull puppy when he cropped the ears with a box cutter and scissors.

The owner was walking his puppy, 2-month-old Brooke, on Sept. 16 near 26th Street and McDowell Road when he was approached by the suspect, who also had a dog, struck up a conversation about how the puppy's ears could be cropped, said Phoenix police Sgt. Darren Burch.

The owner agreed to let the man do the impromptu procedure in the parking lot of a Laundromat near the canal, Burch said.

The suspect cut off the entire ear flap, putting the dog at risk of hearing loss, hemorrhage, cranial infection, and permanently disfigured the puppy, Burch said, who added that the dog was taken to the Arizona Humane Society and has been adopted by new owner.

Burch said the previous owner was cooperative and provided information for a police sketch of the suspect.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, named Robert or Robert, 30 to 35 years old, bald with a goatee. He had skull tattoos on each side of his head, a three-dot tattoo near his left eye and was last seen walking a full-grown brown pit bull with a white chest and disfigured ears on the canal bank in the area of the Laundromat.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-W-I-T-N-E-S-S (480-948-6377), or toll free at 1-800-343-TIPS.
