PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - A high school football game in Palm Beach County between Glades Central and Miami Northwestern has been canceled.
A tweet from the official Twitter of the Miami Northwestern Bulls Football program said the reason for the cancellation was gang violence in the area.
Calls to Glades Central have not been returned.
However, Glades Central co-athletic director Dennis Knabb told the Palm Beach Post , "Due to unrest in the community, school police, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and the area's superintendent have canceled tonight's game against Northwestern."
When WFLX called Northwestern Athletic Business Director Tiffany Wright, she said the school received a call at 11 a.m. Friday informing them of the cancellation, but did not give a reason.
The Palm Beach County School District also confirmed the game was called off, but also could not say why.
According to CBS sports site maxpreps.com Northwestern will move to 4-4 with the automatic victory, while Glades Central falls to 3-5.
