(RNN/CNN) - Funeral: the ceremonies honoring a dead person, typically involving burial or cremation.

Selfie: a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

Together they make a "funeral selfie," a new trend taking over the internet that has left many at a loss … no pun intended.

The Selfies at Funeral page is a compilation on Tumblr filled with people showing off self portraits, before, during and after funerals.

The collection was built by Justin Feifer, who is a Fast Company editor, according to CNN. Pictures uploaded to Twitter and Instagram were used by Feifer and is now becoming a huge trend across social media outlets.

CNN reached out to Emily Post, an etiquette specialist to ask her opinion on funeral selfies.

CNN: When are photos appropriate at funerals, if ever? Are casket photos allowed?

Post: I'm kind of grossed out by the fact that people are turning funerals into selfie photo shoots. I know some young people who have never been to a funeral. There are only a few of them we go to in our lifetime, and I think that's one reason why you see this type of behavior.

I don't find it appropriate that you're making the cute faces and duck lips and hashtagging it #funeral. "'On-my-way-to-the-funeral-selfie' Here's what I wore, don't I look fantastic?"

You know it's not about you, it's about the deceased, so can you back down on the selfies for the moment?

CNN: Are selfies at a funeral ever OK?

Post: No!

Post finished the interview saying parents should advise their children heading to a service to "be quiet, be respectful and pay attention."

Most of the people partaking in these funeral selfies seem to be teens - many with captions about how they look that day, showing little emotion for the loss of life.

But maybe these kids are just showing their youthful selfie impulse in a loving way to capture the moment.

To each their own in this technology-fueled world.

Feifer also has a Tumblr called Selfies at Serious Places that has been up since August, which shows people taking photos of themselves at places like Chernobyl and a gas chamber in Auschwitz.
