FL prisons reopening after growing inmate population

(WFLX) - A year after Florida closed several prisons to save money, the state says it must re-open some of them because of a growing inmate population.

The Department of Corrections wants the legislature to fund $59 million to open nine closed facilities next yeas including Okeechobee Work Camp.

The new request is based on a July forecast from the state criminal justice estimating conference; it expects a 2.7 percent increase of inmates next year.
