PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Traveling by train may not be your first option for getting around South Florida, but it could be soon.
A new multi-million dollar grant may make you reconsider how you travel from city to city in South Florida.
Several local and state officals will announce Tuesday their plans for the nearly $14-million grant just acquired for rail transportation.
The grant, officials say, will not only create more jobs, but make travel more seamless in our region.
The money will go towards connecting rail corridors in South Florida and making travel more efficient on Tri Rail, Florida East Coast Railway and CSX which moves freight around the country.
Officials say the money will also go towards the "All Aboard Florida Intercity Rail" which connects South Florida to tourist hot spots in Central Florida.
The state's Department of Transportation is also pitching in $30 million to the project.
