FAU coach wants job back

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Carl Pelini, the Florida Atlantic University football coach who resigned late last month, wants his job back, he tells ESPN .

FAU Athletics Director Pat Chun had said Pelini and another coach resigned after he confronted both "with reports relating to their use of illegal drugs".

But Thursday, in a statement to ESPN,  Pelini denied using illegal drugs to FAU's athletic director but was told by Chun that it was "irrelevant" because he was "being relieved" of his duties "for failure to supervise my staff".

Pelini also said he offered to take a drug test.

Chun was reached by ESPN and said that Pelini "voluntarily resigned" and "refused to cooperate in the investigation." When asked about Pelini being reinstated as coach, Chun said, "He resigned. I accepted his resignation".

Pat Chun, FAU's athletic director released a statement to Fox29: "I stand by my statement and decision from last week.  We had ample evidence to support the charges that we confronted both coaches with.  We have no further comment at this time."
